The Tea Vocation

The Vocation

For nearly a century, Dammann Freres has been faithful to the tradition of grand blenders, importers of quality and creators of blends and undiscovered fragrances.

To be a grand blender is like being an oenologist, or a great fragrance master. It demands patience and many years of apprenticeship. And as there really is no longer a school, the business of blender is today a vocation of grand tradition: the kind that is passed down from father to son, from master to pupil.

The strength of Dammann Freres resides in its exceptional blenders, Didier and Emmanuel Jumeau-Lafond : tea specialists who select, purchase and then blend; great experts of henceforth international reknown, who place their refined taste buds and subtle noses at the service of the blends they create.

Whether it is Grands Jardins (baptized " Grand Seigneurs " or " Great Lords ", in 1950 by Jean Jumeau-Lafond), or classic teas mixed into creative blends, the blender's savoir-faire is thus of crucial importance.

He/She is the guarantor of taste consistency of your favorite blends. Teas are like great wines : the soil, the climate conditions, the transformations wrought at the plantations, all contribute to vary the quality of the great tea vintages.

So that the tea lover can savour a beverage that remains consistent from one year to the next , the blender must be capable of choosing between different gardens and harvests and adapting the blends in order to produce consistent quality and taste.

Other than the classic blends, Dammann Freres is also an expert in floral teas.

Here again, it is the blender's savoir-faire that makes all the difference. Just like a woman's fragrance may include dozens, even hundreds of different essences, the unique blends of Damman Freres are highly elaborate and most of them being the result of years of work, are practically inimitable.
